Listening to the Land: Creative Collaborations for Land-Based Decision Making Workshop

  • Nelson, BC Canada (map)

All community members with any interest in Cottonwood Lake Park are invited to join in a unique opportunity to participate in an eco-art therapy workshop hosted by the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute.

This workshop is designed to support decision making related to land which may be layered with diverse and divergent interests, enabling a group of people to listen to each other and the land itself with a spirit of curiosity and possibility.

During two and a half hours of collaborative art making with locally found, natural materials at Cottonwood Lake Park, we will creatively explore how a group of people can work together to listen to stories which may emerge from the land.

The afternoon will begin with a mindfulness activity to bring awareness to our sensory experience in nature, and a self-guided walk through the area to find natural art materials. The group will come together to create a collaborative and spontaneous art piece. We will “listen to the land” by exploring any meaning or stories which may emerge from the art. The art will be made on the land, of the land.

We will meet in the parking lot at Cottonwood Lake Park at 12:45 p.m., and at 1:00 p.m. we will take a short walk to where we will make art. As we will be outside, please be sure to bring walking shoes, any snacks you may need and dress for the weather. Shelters and washrooms are available on location.
